REFLECTIONS

Experience

Embarking on my typography journey, I, as a software engineering student with no prior exposure to the field, delved into the basics through this course. The initial exercise served as a practical foundation, introducing me to the dynamics of fonts, intricate spacing considerations, and the nuances of alignment. Mr. Vinod's guidance not only imparted technical skills but also instilled in me an appreciation for the visual potency of typography in conveying messages. Despite facing obstacles, his mentorship facilitated a smooth learning process, fostering a newfound understanding of fonts and their diverse presentations.

Observation

Post the course, my interest in fonts deepened, prompting me to explore and analyze various font designs encountered on social media. I systematically saved designs, dissecting their formations and drawing insights from them. This exploration enabled me to express myself more effectively through font design. Improved observation skills emerged as a significant outcome, allowing me to discern unique styles and details within each font. The comparative analysis of different fonts enhanced my awareness, becoming a valuable source of inspiration.

Findings

A profound realization emerged—the uniqueness of each font lies in its distinctive characteristics, reflecting the individual style of its creator. Delving into the intricacies of font design not only honed my technical skills but also heightened my observational abilities. I discovered that a more flexible approach during the sketching phase, prioritizing the expression of initial ideas, was conducive to the creative process. The understanding that art lacks definitive right or wrong paved the way for optimism, fostering a belief in continuous improvement in future artistic endeavors.
