WEEK 3: LECTURES, TUTORIAL, PRACTICAL || 11.9.2023
LECTURE
During this week, Mr. Fauzi introduced us to the second part of Photoshop. We gained insights into the functionalities of essential tools like the lasso tool, pen tool, and layering, which I anticipate will be valuable for future exercises and projects.
Lasso Tool:
- Enables precise drawing and selection of specific areas in a document.
- Particularly effective when used with a graphic tablet, resembling a pencil in functionality.
Pen Tool:
- The primary choice for creating paths from scratch.
- The appearance of the path is determined by how points are added and the tool is dragged.
- A smoother path is achieved with fewer points.
Layering:
- Involves stacking different images on top of each other.
- Allows independent adjustments on each layer without affecting others.
- Utilizing layers ensures non-destructive editing, preserving the original image even after adjustments in Photoshop.

TUTORIAL
During this week's tutorial session, Mr. Fauzi presented a demonstration video on creating digital collages. Additionally, he provided guidance on utilizing essential features such as blending modes, paths, masking, and layering in Adobe Photoshop.

PRACTICAL
Our assignment for this task was to produce three digital collage designs using Adobe Photoshop with the provided images from Mr. Fauzi. We were encouraged to experiment with blending modes and adjustment layers to enhance our creations. The process involved downloading the provided images, following a demo video as a reference, and working on an A4 canvas size (vertical) art board to create three distinct digital collages. The final step included capturing three photos of our digital collage artwork and incorporating them into our e-portfolio.
This task marked our initial exposure to Photoshop, with Mr. Fauzi guiding us through the fundamental steps of creating a collage in class. To begin, I downloaded all the images provided by Mr. Fauzi and utilized the Quick Selection Tool in Adobe Photoshop. This tool allowed me to efficiently select and mask objects from the images, facilitating the composition of the digital collages.
Adhering to the instructions and employing the given composition elements, we delved into the process of crafting various collages on Photoshop. The assignment was to submit three compositions for Mr. Fauzi's consideration, but I ended up creating several, which I will showcase below.

REFLECTION
Week 3 introduced advanced Photoshop functionalities through Mr. Fauzi's lecture, focusing on key tools like the Lasso Tool, Pen Tool, and Layering. This knowledge is anticipated to play a crucial role in upcoming design projects. The tutorial session complemented the lecture by providing practical insights into digital collage creation, covering essential features such as blending modes and layering. This holistic approach enhanced our understanding of Photoshop's creative potential.
The practical application in Week 3 involved the creation of three digital collages, offering a hands-on experience with blending modes and adjustment layers. Following a provided demo video, the assignment prompted experimentation and creativity. The iterative process, particularly highlighted in Mr. Fauzi's feedback on Composition 5, underscored the importance of continuous refinement in the design process. This practical phase solidified our understanding of Photoshop tools and instilled confidence in approaching complex design challenges.
In summary, Week 3 served as a pivotal stage in our Photoshop journey, providing a comprehensive understanding of advanced tools and techniques. The balance between theoretical insights, tutorial guidance, and practical application enriched the learning experience, laying a robust foundation for future design endeavors.
